Narrative:

After landing on rollout; slowing through 70 KTS; severe shimmy observed. Captain released brakes and shimmy continued until aircraft almost stopped. Pulled off runway; had crash fire rescue equipment trucks check aircraft over for possible tire failure. Everything normal outside and inside aircraft (brake temperature about 100 degrees). Taxied to gate. Maintenance at gate found nose slash deflector rubbing against right nose tire. This seems to be happening more often. Not sure if this is a trend.

Title: AN MD80 ON LNDG ROLLOUT SLOWING THROUGH 70 KTS HAD SEVERE NOSE GEAR SHIMMY. FOUND NOSE GEAR SPRAY DEFLECTOR RUBBING AGAINST R NOSE TIRE.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON ROLLOUT; SLOWING THROUGH 70 KTS; SEVERE SHIMMY OBSERVED. CAPT RELEASED BRAKES AND SHIMMY CONTINUED UNTIL ACFT ALMOST STOPPED. PULLED OFF RWY; HAD CFR TRUCKS CHK ACFT OVER FOR POSSIBLE TIRE FAILURE. EVERYTHING NORMAL OUTSIDE AND INSIDE ACFT (BRAKE TEMP ABOUT 100 DEGS). TAXIED TO GATE. MAINT AT GATE FOUND NOSE SLASH DEFLECTOR RUBBING AGAINST R NOSE TIRE. THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. NOT SURE IF THIS IS A TREND.
