Narrative:
After lining up on the runway for departure (runway 23 btl) full power was added for takeoff. At this point the canopy of the aircraft opened and flipped over onto the wing destroying itself. Upon further investigation it appeared as though the canopy latch was not fully seating itself due to the warping during warm weather. Takeoff was aborted and no injuries occurred. Canopy will need to be replaced. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated 2 factors contributed to the canopy latch failure. The sun had heated the canopy and expanded; and the latch spring was found weak thereby did not hold the latch in the lock position. The canopy was damaged beyond repair and will be replaced.

Title: AN EXTRA300 ON RWY WITH TKOF PWR APPLIED THE CANOPY OPENED AND FLIPPED OVER ONTO THE WING. CANOPY DAMAGED EXTENSIVELY.
Narrative: AFTER LINING UP ON THE RWY FOR DEP (RWY 23 BTL) FULL PWR WAS ADDED FOR TKOF. AT THIS POINT THE CANOPY OF THE ACFT OPENED AND FLIPPED OVER ONTO THE WING DESTROYING ITSELF. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE CANOPY LATCH WAS NOT FULLY SEATING ITSELF DUE TO THE WARPING DURING WARM WEATHER. TKOF WAS ABORTED AND NO INJURIES OCCURRED. CANOPY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED 2 FACTORS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CANOPY LATCH FAILURE. THE SUN HAD HEATED THE CANOPY AND EXPANDED; AND THE LATCH SPRING WAS FOUND WEAK THEREBY DID NOT HOLD THE LATCH IN THE LOCK POS. THE CANOPY WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR AND WILL BE REPLACED.
