Narrative:
ACARS message displayed a new log item we did not enter. As it turned out; maintenance incorrectly deferred a fuel stick and fuel gauge for #2 tank. The flight should not have been dispatched with this condition. Flight itself was uneventful.

Title: A B737-300 PILOT REPORTS ACARS MESSAGE DISPLAYED A NEW LOG ITEM THEY DID NOT ENTER. MAINT HAD INCORRECTLY DEFERRED A FUEL STICK AND FUEL GAUGE FOR #2 TANK. ACFT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RELEASED FOR FLIGHT.
Narrative: ACARS MESSAGE DISPLAYED A NEW LOG ITEM WE DID NOT ENTER. AS IT TURNED OUT; MAINT INCORRECTLY DEFERRED A FUEL STICK AND FUEL GAUGE FOR #2 TANK. THE FLT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DISPATCHED WITH THIS CONDITION. FLT ITSELF WAS UNEVENTFUL.
