Narrative:

At FL390 a crack was discovered in the inner pane of the R5 window. The crack was vertical from top to bottom with four splintering cracks continuing from the main vertical crack. QRH procedure was accomplished which required the use of O2 and a descent to a habitable altitude; followed by landing at the nearest suitable airport. At the time of discovery; the aircraft location was about 90 southeast of an airport. An emergency was declared and the flight attendants were briefed. Dispatch concurred with the divert to that airport which was effected. Descent and landing went without further incident.
