Narrative:
We had just departed ilg airport heading west and climbing at 70 KTS to an altitude of 2500'. I was instructing my student on how to be a flight instrument. We were going over the VFR scan pattern when suddenly an small aircraft Y appeared above me about 100' and passed from my left rear to forward left. As he passed us, he was descending (it looked like he ballooned up to pass over us. We were at 2500'.
