Narrative:
Cleared to taxi to runway 9L, right on alpha black 3. We turned onto taxiway alpha out of the gate area and received our closeout data. We were in the process of changing our flight bugs to runway 9L as this was not the first runway listed on our preflight takeoff data that we put in earlier. Out of the corner of my eye as I was setting my bugs I saw a large object. I looked up and slammed on the brakes as a B767. I believe, passed right in front of us from left to right and slightly from behind. We probably only missed getting hit by about 30 ft. This happened at approximately XA18Z, XF18L at ord. The air carrier jet came from taxiway alpha 10 as we were on the inner taxiway alpha. I asked ground control what was that air carrier 767 doing and all they could say was that they were sorry they thought the 767 was going to pass behind me. I told them I almost hit him. They just said they were sorry. I called back to the flight attendants to see if everyone was alright and the #1 flight attendant said she bumped her ankle but thought she was alright. None of the passenger complained of any injuries as they were all seated. I do not recall ground control informing us of any traffic coming our way nor does my first officer. There apparently was some confusion of the incoming and outbound ground controllers as to who was controling the 767 jet. Ground could not explain what or why the incident had happened and seemed anxious to forget the whole thing. I would like a copy of the FAA transcripts of this incident. This was almost a ground collision.

Title: GND CONFLICT WHEN A WDB PASSES IN FRONT OF RPTING MLG DURING TAXI.
Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 9L, R ON ALPHA BLACK 3. WE TURNED ONTO TXWY ALPHA OUT OF THE GATE AREA AND RECEIVED OUR CLOSEOUT DATA. WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING OUR FLT BUGS TO RWY 9L AS THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST RWY LISTED ON OUR PREFLT TKOF DATA THAT WE PUT IN EARLIER. OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE AS I WAS SETTING MY BUGS I SAW A LARGE OBJECT. I LOOKED UP AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AS A B767. I BELIEVE, PASSED RIGHT IN FRONT OF US FROM L TO R AND SLIGHTLY FROM BEHIND. WE PROBABLY ONLY MISSED GETTING HIT BY ABOUT 30 FT. THIS HAPPENED AT APPROX XA18Z, XF18L AT ORD. THE ACR JET CAME FROM TXWY ALPHA 10 AS WE WERE ON THE INNER TXWY ALPHA. I ASKED GND CTL WHAT WAS THAT ACR 767 DOING AND ALL THEY COULD SAY WAS THAT THEY WERE SORRY THEY THOUGHT THE 767 WAS GOING TO PASS BEHIND ME. I TOLD THEM I ALMOST HIT HIM. THEY JUST SAID THEY WERE SORRY. I CALLED BACK TO THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO SEE IF EVERYONE WAS ALRIGHT AND THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT SAID SHE BUMPED HER ANKLE BUT THOUGHT SHE WAS ALRIGHT. NONE OF THE PAX COMPLAINED OF ANY INJURIES AS THEY WERE ALL SEATED. I DO NOT RECALL GND CTL INFORMING US OF ANY TFC COMING OUR WAY NOR DOES MY FO. THERE APPARENTLY WAS SOME CONFUSION OF THE INCOMING AND OUTBOUND GND CTLRS AS TO WHO WAS CTLING THE 767 JET. GND COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHAT OR WHY THE INCIDENT HAD HAPPENED AND SEEMED ANXIOUS TO FORGET THE WHOLE THING. I WOULD LIKE A COPY OF THE FAA TRANSCRIPTS OF THIS INCIDENT. THIS WAS ALMOST A GND COLLISION.
