Narrative:
Aircraft was cleared to taxi to runway 11L for takeoff. We entered taxiway a at ramp and continued merrily on our way. Being used to using the longest runway (normally), I continued to taxi to what I thought was the end of runway 11L. About that time, tower called, asked us where we were going, and advised us we had passed the last intersecting taxiway as well as crossed an active runway. We had visually verified no crossing traffic. We were then cleared to do a 180 degree turn and continued to runway 11L for takeoff. Contributing factors: 1) unfamiliarity with airport. First trip, plus crew deadheaded in as passenger. I considered asking ground control for progressive instructions but didn't. 2) head cold and ears popping (captain). Not feeling 100 percent well. 3) flight already had taken 15 min delay trying to correct overweight problem. We apologized to tower. He said no problem. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter flies the B-737 for a low cost air carrier that is giving the majors a fit. Neither the captain nor first officer had been into tus before. The captain asked the first officer to ask for progressive taxi instructions and then did not insist on this when the first officer did not do it. The captain had his airport diagram in front of him. The first officer was no help in taxiing as many pretkof duties are accomplished while taxiing. The tower was not upset with this. The airport was not busy. The reporter has not heard from the FAA on this matter.

Narrative: ACFT WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 11L FOR TKOF. WE ENTERED TXWY A AT RAMP AND CONTINUED MERRILY ON OUR WAY. THE FO WAS NO HELP IN TAXIING AS MANY PRETKOF DUTIES ARE ACCOMPLISHED WHILE TAXIING. THE TWR WAS NOT UPSET WITH THIS. THE ARPT WAS NOT BUSY. THE RPTR HAS NOT HEARD FROM THE FAA ON THIS MATTER.
