Narrative:
ATC called traffic above and to right passing parke intersection. We were at 16000 ft saw traffic above right to left. Light twin jet. Clearance was given to climb 17000 ft and make radio change. Checked in on new frequency and given climb to 19000 ft. Passing 16300 we got a TA on TCASII traffic 12 O'clock 7 mi. No call from ATC. We acquired visual on twin propeller king on queen air (T tail). Copilot stopped climb at 16700 TCASII indicated aircraft was at 17500 ft. We asked new controller about traffic. Controller thought we had been given VFR TA, we had not. I think controller became confused. Thought we had been given that traffic when in fact we had not. We never got an RA on TCASII. See and avoid saved a close encounter.

Narrative: ATC CALLED TFC ABOVE AND TO R PASSING PARKE INTXN. WE WERE AT 16000 FT SAW TFC ABOVE R TO L. LIGHT TWIN JET. CLRNC WAS GIVEN TO CLB 17000 FT AND MAKE RADIO CHANGE. CHKED IN ON NEW FREQ AND GIVEN CLB TO 19000 FT. PASSING 16300 WE GOT A TA ON TCASII TFC 12 O'CLOCK 7 MI. NO CALL FROM ATC. WE ACQUIRED VISUAL ON TWIN PROP KING ON QUEEN AIR (T TAIL). COPLT STOPPED CLB AT 16700 TCASII INDICATED ACFT WAS AT 17500 FT. WE ASKED NEW CTLR ABOUT TFC. CTLR THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN GIVEN VFR TA, WE HAD NOT. I THINK CTLR BECAME CONFUSED. THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN GIVEN THAT TFC WHEN IN FACT WE HAD NOT. WE NEVER GOT AN RA ON TCASII. SEE AND AVOID SAVED A CLOSE ENCOUNTER.
