Narrative:
While on ukw arrival approach informed us of climbing traffic at 10-11 O'clock. Low climbing traffic appeared to be spotted by crew and subsequent TA to RA commands, I responded by turning off the autoplt and started smooth climb in accordance with TA command, no traffic was above and at about 11500 ft commands ceased, informed approach immediately and returned to altitude of 11000 ft. Approach reported no problems as a result of our actions. My understanding was the software in the TCASII system had been modified for the climbs in the dfw area. I have not had an RA in the dfw area for several yrs. Aircraft involved was an MD88.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FOKKER 100 ON UKW STAR 11000 FT, TFC CLBING POINTED OUT BY CTLR. TFC SIGHTED AT THE SAME TIME HAD TCASII TA AND RA. MADE A SLOW CLB TO 11500 FT WHERE WARNING CEASED.
Narrative: WHILE ON UKW ARR APCH INFORMED US OF CLBING TFC AT 10-11 O'CLOCK. LOW CLBING TFC APPEARED TO BE SPOTTED BY CREW AND SUBSEQUENT TA TO RA COMMANDS, I RESPONDED BY TURNING OFF THE AUTOPLT AND STARTED SMOOTH CLB IN ACCORDANCE WITH TA COMMAND, NO TFC WAS ABOVE AND AT ABOUT 11500 FT COMMANDS CEASED, INFORMED APCH IMMEDIATELY AND RETURNED TO ALT OF 11000 FT. APCH RPTED NO PROBS AS A RESULT OF OUR ACTIONS. MY UNDERSTANDING WAS THE SOFTWARE IN THE TCASII SYS HAD BEEN MODIFIED FOR THE CLBS IN THE DFW AREA. I HAVE NOT HAD AN RA IN THE DFW AREA FOR SEVERAL YRS. ACFT INVOLVED WAS AN MD88.
