Narrative:
I was running a few mins late, became hurried and was told to expedite to runway 27L atl via taxiway M from ramp X. We exited ramp X and turned right on taxiway M instead of left, and proceeded to runway 9L. No other aircraft were affected. Upon realizing we were proceeding to wrong runway, we asked ground to turn around and taxi to runway 27R. We were both upset by mistake and discussed our error during the taxi and once again missed a holding point (hold short of taxiway D). Ground said no problem, continue taxi to runway. The first mistake was caused because we became engrossed in the checklists believing we were #1 for the runway and losing situational awareness. The second error was committed because we were too engrossed with the first error.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG TAXIES TOWARDS THE WRONG RWY. PIC WAS IN A HURRY AS FLT WAS A 'FEW MINS LATE.' REALIZING HIS ERROR HE GETS REGARDING CLRNC TO ACTIVE RWY BUT THEN FAILS TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY D. 'NO PROB' FROM THE CTLR.
Narrative: I WAS RUNNING A FEW MINS LATE, BECAME HURRIED AND WAS TOLD TO EXPEDITE TO RWY 27L ATL VIA TXWY M FROM RAMP X. WE EXITED RAMP X AND TURNED R ON TXWY M INSTEAD OF L, AND PROCEEDED TO RWY 9L. NO OTHER ACFT WERE AFFECTED. UPON REALIZING WE WERE PROCEEDING TO WRONG RWY, WE ASKED GND TO TURN AROUND AND TAXI TO RWY 27R. WE WERE BOTH UPSET BY MISTAKE AND DISCUSSED OUR ERROR DURING THE TAXI AND ONCE AGAIN MISSED A HOLDING POINT (HOLD SHORT OF TXWY D). GND SAID NO PROB, CONTINUE TAXI TO RWY. THE FIRST MISTAKE WAS CAUSED BECAUSE WE BECAME ENGROSSED IN THE CHKLISTS BELIEVING WE WERE #1 FOR THE RWY AND LOSING SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. THE SECOND ERROR WAS COMMITTED BECAUSE WE WERE TOO ENGROSSED WITH THE FIRST ERROR.
