Narrative:
I departed 20N (kingston/ulster airpark; ny) for a flight sbound through the hudson river corridor. I proceeded; with flight following (advisories) to the verrazano narrows bridge and then flew eastbound toward long island; along the shoreline at or below 500 ft as instructed by kennedy approach. Upon leaving kennedy's airspace; kennedy approach called and stated I was now clear of the class B airspace and to squawk 1200. No handoff was offered. I asked the controller if I could turn northbound from my present position and climb out. I was told I could as I was clear of the class B airspace. Using a sectional; my GPS; VOR's. And pilotage; I felt I was clear of the class B airspace; as reported by kennedy approach and proceeded to climb to 3000 ft. When I thought it was appropriate; I initiated a climb to 5500 ft and kept proceeding northbound. Upon passing duchess county airport; I called in a position report (as a courtesy) to let them know I was flying northbound over their airspace. The controller asked me to call TRACON upon landing. I complied when back at 20N a short time later. The TRACON gentleman I spoke to asked me if I departed from farmingdale airport (which I hadn't; I departed and landed at 20N only) and then stated I had climbed into the class B airspace as I flew northwest of farmingdale; ny. I checked my sectional with him on the phone as he had a radar track of my flight and he concluded that I mistook farmingdale (republic airport) for islip (macarthur field). The TRACON gentleman told me that there were no other aircraft nearby so no violations would be filed but to be very careful and to not depend on my GPS. He explained the seriousness of an incursion. I am aware of the seriousness of an airspace incursion; especially in and around crowded new york city and thought I was careful. My intention is to re-fly the route with an instructor on board to attempt to recreate the situation and try to determine what went wrong. I will utilize all cockpit resources more carefully in the future and doublechk my GPS and position as I was advised.

Title: C182 PLT HAS A CLASS B INCURSION IN JFK AIRSPACE.
Narrative: I DEPARTED 20N (KINGSTON/ULSTER AIRPARK; NY) FOR A FLT SBOUND THROUGH THE HUDSON RIVER CORRIDOR. I PROCEEDED; WITH FLT FOLLOWING (ADVISORIES) TO THE VERRAZANO NARROWS BRIDGE AND THEN FLEW EBOUND TOWARD LONG ISLAND; ALONG THE SHORELINE AT OR BELOW 500 FT AS INSTRUCTED BY KENNEDY APCH. UPON LEAVING KENNEDY'S AIRSPACE; KENNEDY APCH CALLED AND STATED I WAS NOW CLR OF THE CLASS B AIRSPACE AND TO SQUAWK 1200. NO HDOF WAS OFFERED. I ASKED THE CTLR IF I COULD TURN NBOUND FROM MY PRESENT POS AND CLB OUT. I WAS TOLD I COULD AS I WAS CLR OF THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. USING A SECTIONAL; MY GPS; VOR'S. AND PILOTAGE; I FELT I WAS CLR OF THE CLASS B AIRSPACE; AS RPTED BY KENNEDY APCH AND PROCEEDED TO CLB TO 3000 FT. WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS APPROPRIATE; I INITIATED A CLB TO 5500 FT AND KEPT PROCEEDING NBOUND. UPON PASSING DUCHESS COUNTY ARPT; I CALLED IN A POS RPT (AS A COURTESY) TO LET THEM KNOW I WAS FLYING NBOUND OVER THEIR AIRSPACE. THE CTLR ASKED ME TO CALL TRACON UPON LNDG. I COMPLIED WHEN BACK AT 20N A SHORT TIME LATER. THE TRACON GENTLEMAN I SPOKE TO ASKED ME IF I DEPARTED FROM FARMINGDALE ARPT (WHICH I HADN'T; I DEPARTED AND LANDED AT 20N ONLY) AND THEN STATED I HAD CLBED INTO THE CLASS B AIRSPACE AS I FLEW NW OF FARMINGDALE; NY. I CHKED MY SECTIONAL WITH HIM ON THE PHONE AS HE HAD A RADAR TRACK OF MY FLT AND HE CONCLUDED THAT I MISTOOK FARMINGDALE (REPUBLIC ARPT) FOR ISLIP (MACARTHUR FIELD). THE TRACON GENTLEMAN TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT NEARBY SO NO VIOLATIONS WOULD BE FILED BUT TO BE VERY CAREFUL AND TO NOT DEPEND ON MY GPS. HE EXPLAINED THE SERIOUSNESS OF AN INCURSION. I AM AWARE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF AN AIRSPACE INCURSION; ESPECIALLY IN AND AROUND CROWDED NEW YORK CITY AND THOUGHT I WAS CAREFUL. MY INTENTION IS TO RE-FLY THE RTE WITH AN INSTRUCTOR ON BOARD TO ATTEMPT TO RECREATE THE SITUATION AND TRY TO DETERMINE WHAT WENT WRONG. I WILL UTILIZE ALL COCKPIT RESOURCES MORE CAREFULLY IN THE FUTURE AND DOUBLECHK MY GPS AND POS AS I WAS ADVISED.
