Narrative:
While performing pre-flight duties; the following message was observed on the GPS screen. 'Data base expires on [yesterday]'. The event occurred as part of the navigational equipment pre-flight because for unknown reasons [yesterday] the maintenance department failed to install the new cards not only on this aircraft but in all our local fleet. [Today] when I went to the aircraft and during pre flight the display now changed to yellow 'data base [yesterday] expired.' I called maintenance control to inform them about the discrepancy. As a line of defense; flight operations can provide us as a warning/caution message to check the data base information the previous date.
